Best Place On Earth TO LIVE; Sussex County Delaware This IS the best place on earth to live; there are many reasons! Let me get the easy and usual ones listed first. Low Taxes: We have the lowest taxation in America, taxation in all it's forms; No sales tax, very low property tax and the rest of our taxes are among the best on earth. Add that to the fact that we are in America where we get more for our money than anywhere else and that gives us a good start. Great Climate: Although we are considered to be a north eastern state by some; our climate in Delaware is nearly identical to that of the Carolinas and the same climate as Atlanta! The reason for this is a combination of the prevailing winds, the Gulf Stream and the fact that we are a low-lying, temperate peninsula, jutting into the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean. We are a tiny state, surrounded by these tempering waters and with many inland bays, rivers and streams to make our winters milder and our summers cooler. In addition, the Pennsylvania mountains to our north are a great help in protecting us from bad winters. Clean Air: in most of our state, except for the northern part, we have very clean air and since the prevailing winds are from the west, even the less clean air of northern Delaware is blown out to sea. We need to make it cleaner but it is pretty good! Good Traffic: Yes, we all complain about traffic like everywhere else in the country but we have an excellent road system and it is well kept better than anywhere else I have seen. As more people move here we see some more traffic but compared to almost anywhere else we have it very easy here except for a couple of hours on two or three roads one or two days a week. And we are always working to improve the roads as our population increases because people are finding out that this is a GREAT place to live. Good People: a few years ago we were almost entirely farmers and then we changed to a resort very rapidly. As a result we have an extremely multicultural community that loves it here and gets along well with everyone else from everywhere else and with every kind of lifestyle you can imagine. We have more than our share of artists and writers and musicians and poets and far more than our share of self-employed people. These are the kind of people who have the time and inclination to make this a better place and we are working on making better in every way, every day! We have a fabulous quality of life here! Stuff to Do: We have more stuff to do than any other place I have ever seen for our size! Go to the Delaware Beach Board and spend ten minutes clicking around the different topics to see huge lists and discussions of things to do and places to go! Join the Discussion Board and ask questions; you will be answered for anything you want to know about this area! Lots of Green Space: A huge part of Delaware is included in our numerous parks system or part of numerous green space projects. Over 50% of our waterfront is part of one park or another. large parts of the rest of the state are in park lands or green space too. There are also several non-governmental green space projects, such as Sussex County Land Trust. Great Health Care: Beebe Hospital is our regional hospital, in the Lewes area; I say area because we have many locations for hospital services in and around Lewes and growing constantly bigger and better!
